Take these things into account for your next class. ;)
Greet students with a smile.
Always greet the students with a smile. Smiling is one way to make them feel comfortable and at ease.
Engage with your student.
Being a tutor is not just about teaching the material during the class, it's also about getting to know your students and building a connection with them. Ask your students about their hobbies or interests, then you can also share your anecdotes related to the topic to keep the discussion spontaneous!
Be patient.
Patience is the key to understanding. You will face a lot of students with different personalities, so always remember to be patient with them. Learn what makes them comfortable, attentive, and engaging.
Show professionalism.
It's okay to joke around with your students or be friends with them, but always remember that you are a teacher first, and your role is to guide and teach the students.
Be a good listener.
A good way to understand a student is to listen with your heart. Listen for clues in your students' manner of speaking and try to understand what they feel.
Keep lessons relevant.
Make sure that before teaching a material or concept to your student, you must know and read more about it beforehand. Do some research about the topic to keep the discussion engaging, especially when it is not your cup of tea.
Respect your students.
A good tutor respects the student's beliefs, values, and preferences. We should not force our beliefs on the students. Keep an open mind and respect each other.
Establish a supportive environment.
An environment that fosters supportiveness provides students with the necessary encouragement to persist when faced with challenges. It also creates a comfortable space for students to ask questions and share ideas. Furthermore, a positive learning environment motivates students to learn.
Give them the keys to knowledge - Let them pick what they want to explore.
Empowering students with a sense of agency in their education leads to increased engagement and motivation. One way to achieve this is to provide diverse courses and enable students to select the ones that align with their interests. This approach to education helps make learning more meaningful and captivating for students.
